Rental Terms & Conditions
Effective March 29, 2026
1. Eligibility
- Renters must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Rental Period & Hours
- Rentals are charged per calendar day at the rates listed on our website.
- Pickup is available any day except Sunday, anytime after 9:30 AM.
- Returns are accepted any day except Sunday before 5:30 PM.
- If your rental period includes a Sunday, you are charged for that day but pickup and return are not available on Sundays.
3. Pickup & Return Location
All pickups and returns take place at:
La Sirena Condominiums
Calle Yalku Lot 33-34, Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico
4. Permitted Riding Area
- Scooters must remain within Akumal Bay and Half Moon Bay.
- Travel to the Akumal Pueblo is not permitted.
- Riding outside these areas is a violation of this agreement and may result in additional charges.
5. Security Deposit
A $500 USD security deposit hold is placed on your card at the time of booking. This is an authorization hold, not a charge. It is automatically released within 2–5 business days after the scooter is returned in good condition.
6. Renter Responsibilities
- You are fully responsible for the scooter from pickup to return.
- Lock the scooter with the provided combination cable lock whenever it is unattended.
- One rider per scooter — no passengers.
- No riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Obey all local traffic laws and ride safely.
- Do not attempt to modify, disassemble, or tamper with the scooter.
- Return the scooter in the same condition it was received.
7. Damage, Loss & Fee Schedule
By agreeing to these terms, you authorize Akumal Scooters to charge the card on file for any of the following:

| Minor damage (scratches, cosmetic) | $50 – $150 USD |
| Tire or brake damage | Up to $200 USD |
| Major damage (structural, motor, battery) | Up to $500 USD |
| Lost, stolen, or unreturned scooter | $900 USD (replacement cost) |
| Lost combination cable lock | $30 USD |
| Lost charger | $40 USD |
| Riding outside permitted area | $100 USD |
Damage is assessed based on the condition at return compared to pickup. You will be contacted and given an opportunity to review any damage claim before your card is charged.
8. Card on File & Future Charges
By completing your booking, you explicitly authorize Akumal Scooters to:
- Place a $500 USD security deposit hold on your card.
- Charge your card on file for any fees described in Section 7 (damage, loss, late return, or policy violations) after the rental period ends.
All charges will include an itemized explanation sent to your email. You will always have the opportunity to dispute a charge with evidence before it is processed.
9. Liability & Assumption of Risk
- Electric scooters involve inherent risks including falls, collisions, and injuries. You assume all risk associated with operating the scooter.
- Akumal Scooters is not liable for any personal injury, property damage, or third-party claims arising from your use of the scooter.
- You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Akumal Scooters, its owners, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses resulting from your rental.
10. Cancellation Policy
- 48+ hours before pickup: Full refund.
- 24–48 hours before pickup: 50% refund.
- Less than 24 hours / no-show: No refund.
11. Governing Law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Quintana Roo.
12. Agreement
By checking the agreement box and completing payment on akumalscooters.com, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to all terms and conditions stated above.
